Simply Tips - Boracay

If it is your first time to travel to Boracay and you only have a carry-on bag. There is no need to hire a tricycle going to Jetty Port. It is a few blocks away from the airport and your reward for an early walk in the morning weather in Caticlan. This is only possible if it's not dripping or the sun is not yet up. You know that summer could really be so bad and sometimes the rain could spoil a part of the trip.
When you reach the port, there are many boats servicing Caticlan and Boracay. Get ready with your coin purse to pay for the ferry ticket, terminal fee, and environmental fee.
Upon arrival, before you get off the ferry, be sure that you have all your stuff with you – wallet & gadgets. There are public utility vehicles or jeeps that will take you to the place they call “Paradise”.
You might wonder how come they call the place paradise when there is advanced commercial establishments and nature is keeping up with all the drastic changes. The only thing they don’t have and most likely they cannot afford to have this moment is a Supermall. Who knows, soon major mall developers find Boracay to be capable of having at least one big mall? However, with the ongoing battle on the garbage disposal in Boracay, I believe it has to be solved first.
If you have not made early reservations, as most often Boracay frequent visitors do. Roam around the place and look for the best deal. During the lean season, you can have a place for as low as 2,000php good for four (4) standard accommodations (Station 2). There is a reward for those who seek and seek.
Buying ready to eat food is not a problem because there are many "fast food chains" available there. Just take extra careful though, as you don’t want to have a bad stomach ruin the trip. It is best that you only drink bottled water and avoid grilled foods – otherwise have it well done.
In the island, people spend more time walking from there to here and vice versa. You will find a lot of henna tattoo artist (I hope they are.) but I strongly suggest that if you can really avoid having one, just don’t have it. You have to pay extra if you stain any curtain, bed sheet or pillow in your accommodation. In addition, I had skin irritation and the henna made a permanent mark on my arm.
There are many vendors for your “pasalubong” needs. Please be reminded that there are designated smoking areas and you cannot throw your garbage anywhere. There are ATM booths in Boracay if you ran out of stash, but remember that getting another money means that you are adding to your initial budget – overspending is not a good behavior in traveling. This is another skill that you should learn in this hobby. Learn to say no politely and move along without hitting your budget.
Going back is as easy as coming in. If you are diverting your flight or trip from another station, like Iloilo (6 hours bus trip from Caticlan) or Kalibo (1 and a half hours bus trip from Caticlan) just so you can get the best fare. There are plenty of public transports servicing these routes. They offer bigger planes, so most likely there will have plenty of seats available for sale.
Travelling can be quite complicated if you don’t plan your trip ahead. Remember that there are many things you can learn if you are willing and can manage your expectations. Get a piece of paper and plan your trip today!
