Boracay, Again

This year’s best destination will have to be Boracay. I always thought that it was commercially advanced and there is nothing much to do in Bora. Thanks GOD I have second thoughts. Experience will give you two options, to go back or it was worth a try. I have to thank the de Veyra family and of course Lennard for making it possible. This is family fun that will have great memories as we move along.
The most essential part of a trip is planning. You don’t have to be the expert but you have to figure out what are the basic needs. Ask yourself. Where should I go this time? Is this your first adventure? Well, for first timers you have to look for a place that will match your budget. What do you like to do? We have types of activities when travelling into places. If you are into beaches, then you can visit Boracay, Puerto Princesa, Dakak, Cebu or Coron. You can also have a sight seeing and beach combined on some of the destinations I mentioned. Remember, you have to be cost conscious when you are travelling. Premium destinations like Boracay and Puerto Princesa is quite a big budget, not unless if you travel on the lean season – after summer.
Now that you have your destination it’s time to book your flights and don’t be super excited about it because you have be very keen on details. If you avail an extra day, then that means extra money, if you shorten your trip, then that means you have to maximize your time or else the trip didn’t come out as expected.
Another thing that you should consider is your expectations. Hotel accommodation can be quite tricky or perhaps the website was not regularly updated. There is no extra cost if you have many questions to ask before you book your hotel. You have to know what do you need and ask them if they can give it to you. As soon as you have confirmed with the reservations officer, ask them to send you a voucher based on your conversation. Some resorts offer a free pick-up so it’s a plus factor for you.
I basically have a kit when I travel. It has the most essential things I need when I travel. Most of them are in small containers not more than 100ml because I prefer for the carry on baggage than a checked baggage. I have shampoo with conditioner, lotion or moisturizer, mouth wash, body soap, facial soap, cotton buds, alcohol, alcogel, toothpaste, perfume or cologne, toothbrush, deodorant (extreme conditions to avoid “baskil” – read: wet underarms) I have my own set of “kikay” (read: toiletries) kit from my wife. This way you save some extra peso because prices of basic commodities vary especially if you are travelling into a premium destination.
When choosing for the right clothing to bring, I have a clear mindset that I can have at least one set of comfortable sleeping clothes and the rest will be for the trip activity. I usually don’t think of it that I have to wear this in the morning and this one in the afternoon. Flexibility is ability. The more of them, the more bags, the more bags, the more you have to carry and when you arrive at your final destination – exhausted! Be sure to share this to your travel companion because you might end up bringing his/her extra bags.
Make use of your extra time researching for activities and local blogs about the place. This way, you can get the great deals and never have to worry about adding extra pesos on your budget.
After you have confirmed your flights, hotel reservations, things to bring, sorted the budget and your fashion statement. Learn to manage your expectations and get ready for the adventure.
Boracay really worked for us because it was a family reunion and sort of thanksgiving. We really enjoyed the treat and everyone had a great time. The accommodation was the best deal with cottages outside to eat our own cooked meals. The island hopping adventure that everyone was thrilled to the splash of sea water. Oh boy! Who would forget the banana boat? The sea must’ve seen the craziness and enjoyed the laughter. Then after that, buffet dinner by the beach with all the best sea food and local cuisine. Thanks Lennard! God bless you more!
p.s.
I’m grateful for the BlackBerry gift.
